A Family's Example

This lesson examines biblical account in Jeremiah 35, focusing on the exemplary faithfulness of the Recabite clan. The incident, which occurred around 606 B.C. during the reign of King Jehoiakim, serves as a powerful prophetic object lesson, or "visual aid," intended to rebuke the unfaithful nation of Judah. Commanded by God, the prophet Jeremiah publicly tests the Recabites by offering them wine in the temple. Their steadfast refusal, based on a centuries-old ancestral command, provides a stark contrast to Judah's persistent disobedience to God's divine law.
